Sonam Shering Lepcha conferred with Padma Shri dies

Folk music composer Sonam Tshering Lepcha, awarded with Padma Shri Award died. He was born in 1928 in Kalimpong, West Bengal. He started his career as a soldier. Sonam traveled to different parts of Sikkim and contributed significantly in popularizing Indian folk and traditional Lepcha culture and performed folk music programs on All India Radio in 1960. Moreover, he got the Padma Shri in the year 2007 for his outstanding contribution in the field of folk music.
